Spiky ball of doom

The “fruit” of the southern Sweetgum tree starts off like this, then morphs into a dry spiky husk that’ll bite into your unshoed foot, if you are not careful. Whatever moron thought it was a good idea to build houses amongst both these and pine trees was, well, a moron! Linking up for Macro Monday.
